Bring your laptop
You describe what you want in plain English — “make me a map of my favorite places in Fillmore” — and an AI helper called Claude builds it for you. You don’t write any code. You just talk, look at what it made, and ask for changes.
WHAT’S POSSIBLE NOW
Projects that used to need a team of programmers, months of work and hundreds of thousands of dollars can now come together in days — for a $20-a-month plan. That changes who gets to build. It means a retiree, a farmer, a teenager or a shop owner in Fillmore can make real tools for their town. That’s what makes the possibilities so wonderful.
With a menu, photos, hours and a way for customers to book or order.
Walk a 3D version of Fillmore in your web browser. Characters share real stories gathered from town elders, and quests send players out to real local shops and landmarks to unlock the next chapter.
A phone app where you tap any building and hear its history in English or Spanish. Neighbors add their own photos and memories, so the map keeps growing into the town’s shared story.
Offer a ride, share extra fruit from your tree, or ask for a hand moving a couch.
Track plantings, harvests and watering, or run sign-ups for community garden plots.
An AI guide that knows the town’s events, trails, farm stands and local businesses. It answers questions in any language and plans a perfect day for a visitor or a new neighbor.
BEFORE YOU COME
This takes about 20 minutes at home. Doing it ahead of time means you’ll spend the workshop building, not setting up.
If you don’t have a laptop, don’t want to sign up for anything yet, or just get stuck, that’s completely fine. We’ll have one or two people there who are all set up, and you can pair up and share with them. Just come as you are.
1
You need a Mac or Windows laptop. iPads, phones and Chromebooks won’t work for this workshop. Charge it fully and pack the charger.
2
On your laptop, go to claude.ai and click Sign up. Use your email address. Write down the email you used so you have it at the workshop.
3
The building tool we’ll use (Claude Code) comes with the Pro plan. It’s $20 a month in the US, and you can cancel any time. Go to claude.ai/upgrade and choose Pro. Not ready to pay? Skip this — you can start free or pair up with someone who’s set up.
4
Go to claude.com/download, download the app for your computer, and open the file to install it. Open Claude and sign in with the same email. Then click the Code tab. If it opens, you’re set.
Windows only — one extra step. Claude Code on Windows also needs a free program called Git. Go to git-scm.com/downloads/win, download it, and keep clicking Next until it finishes (the standard choices are fine). Then close Claude and open it again.
5
On your desktop, make a new folder and name it My Fillmore Project. This is where everything you build will be saved. Claude only works inside the folder you give it.
6
Think of one small thing that would make Fillmore more wonderful, and write it in a sentence. For example: a map of the best walking spots, a quiz game about town history, a page where neighbors can offer to help each other. Small and simple is perfect.
NOT READY TO PAY?
A free Claude account still lets you build. Here’s the difference:
Either way, you’re welcome at the workshop. Free members can follow along in the chat, and if you’d like to try Claude Code without signing up, you can pair up with one of the people we’ll have ready to share.
WHY CLAUDE?
You build in a regular app on your computer — no confusing black command screens.
It shows you what it wants to change and asks before it does, until you tell it otherwise.
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, has committed to keeping Claude products ad-free, so no one is paying to steer your conversations.
Anthropic was founded with a focus on making AI safe and trustworthy.
You can try it at no cost and only upgrade if you love it.
When the whole room uses the same tool, helpers can guide anyone who gets stuck.
There are other good AI tools out there, and what you learn here carries over to them. Use whatever works best for you.
HONEST ANSWERS
Skeptics are welcome. Here’s what people usually ask.
No. You type what you want in everyday words, and Claude writes the code. If you can write an email, you can do this.
Yes. We’ll have one or two people set up that you can pair up and share with, and you can follow along on a free Claude account. Nobody has to buy anything to join in.
The workshop is free. To use Claude Code you need the Claude Pro plan, which is $20 a month in the US. It’s optional: you can start with a free account or pair up with someone who’s set up. If you do sign up, you can cancel any time from your account settings.
Not unless you choose to. Pro has a usage limit. If you reach it, Claude asks you to wait until it resets. Paying for extra usage is a separate setting that you would have to turn on yourself — just don’t turn it on.
No. In AI, a “token” is just a small piece of a word — it’s how AI counts how much text it reads and writes, a bit like counting minutes on a phone plan. There is nothing to buy, trade or invest in. Your Pro plan covers it.
Claude only works inside the folder you choose — your “My Fillmore Project” folder. When you start out, it asks your permission before it changes anything, and shows you exactly what it wants to do. You can say no or press stop at any time.
In Claude’s settings, under Privacy, you can choose whether your conversations are used to help improve Claude. As with anything online, don’t type in passwords, bank details or other private information. Your project stays saved on your own computer.
You won’t be the only one, and that’s the point. We’ll go step by step, and helpers will be in the room. Going at your own pace is completely fine.
Something simple and real: a one-page website, a small game, a quiz, a map or a sign-up page. It won’t be perfect, and that’s okay — the goal is to make your first thing and see how it works.
It’s yours, saved in your folder. Sharing is up to you. If you’d like, we’d love to show it on the Imaginarium website.
It’s a fair worry, and you’re welcome to bring it up with us. In this workshop, you’re in charge: the ideas, the choices and the care for Fillmore come from you. Claude is a tool that helps you make them real. Come see for yourself and decide what you think.
Yes! Bring your laptop and we’ll help you finish setting up. Or skip setup entirely and pair up with someone who’s ready to share.
